Where there is no vision the people parish - Proverbs 29:18
Visualize your Future Self Today
I started college right after high school. Due to life circumstances, I left college and went to work. Shortly after going to work I started my sales agency at the age of 22. Even with starting my own company, it was still a dream of mine to finish my degree and to get an MBA. It knew business and sales. But as someone who is always wanting to grow more, I knew I didn't know it all.
Back in 1997 I didn't know anything about the science of visualization and meditation like I know today. To my knowledge there really wasn't any research about it back then, at least not in the scientific world. Today visualization and meditation have become very popular practices for living. This is because it works. Given the research out today, I have learned so much more about the power of vision. I now know why it was so effective when I utilized it as a tool back in 1997.
If you are asking, what is future visualization.
The quick answer - allowing your mind and emotions to see, feel and hear yourself in the future living your dream as if it's already happen. Today this doesn't sound very ground breaking as there are all kinds of books about it. In 1997 I kind of stumbled on it accidentally and it changed my life. I was driving home from work one day thinking about my future. Since I had wanted to go back to school, a vision just kind of hit me. I saw myself walking across a stage wearing a cap and gown, shaking hands with someone as they handed me my degree. I could literally hear the crowd as they cheered for me. I could feel the accomplishment in my body as I accepted my degree. It was like I was there. The vision hit me with so much force that I started to cry as I could really feel the accomplishment, like it had already taken place. The emotions were so strong I almost had to pull my car over. Which is why I suggest finding a place you can sit in the how to section, I don't suggest doing this while driving.
I created this future vision in 1997. I had just started my company a year prior so I wanted to get that moving in the right direction before I went back to school. I started my undergrad 2001 the minute I felt like my business was in a good place. Four years later and this vision was just as strong as it was the day I had it. People told me I didn't need a degree to do what I did. That I was making really good money. Degrees are over rated. In hindsight, I can honestly say there was some wisdom some of the words I received. But this vision pulled me in with so much force I couldn't not do it. I didn't listen to anyone that tried to tell me I shouldn't do it. It didn't have to force myself to want it, there was no way I wasn't going to do it. I took night classes at LeTourneau University for 5 years to complete my undergrad. 5 years! Going none stop. The idea of quiting never even crossed my mind. Keely and I had our daughter Dylan and our son Jude, so I took a little bit of a break before starting my MBA. In 2010 I started my MBA at UT Dallas and finished in 2012. That is the power of a vision.
So. Pick your vision wisely and try the below.
How to create my future self?
What do you want to be, create, have, enjoy, experience, feel?
Find a comfortable place that you can sit for an extended period of time.
Relax your body and release your mind - let go of all your thoughts.
Create a vision of your future - being, creating, having, enjoying, experiencing your dream.
Really go there in your mind - let yourself be creative and have fun.
What do you see, what do you hear, what do you feel?
Let this vision immerse your mind, body and emotions.
Experience your vision as if it's happened already.
Now - what is one step you need to take to start moving towards your dream today.
Do you need to research something, call someone, set up a meeting, write something, throw something out. Whatever it is, do it today. The most powerful force in our life is the power of decision. You can decide today to no longer wait and move towards your future.
